Stefan Dohr

  • Studied in Essen and Cologne
  • Was solo hornist with the Frankfurter Opernhaus- und Museumsorchester, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, before becoming solo hornist with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1993
  • Has collaborated as a soloist with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Bernhard Haitink, Christian Thielemann, Daniel Harding, Gustavo Gimeno, Dima Slobodeniouk, Paavo and Neeme Järvi, John Storgårds, and Marc Albrecht
  • Guest appearances with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the philharmonic orchestras in Oslo, Shanghai, and Osaka, as well as the NHK Symphony Orchestra
  • Many contemporary composers have dedicated works to Dohr, who has given world premieres of works by Herbert Willi (2008), Jorge E. López (2009), Johannes Wallmann (2010), Toshio Hosokawa (2011), and Wolfgang Rihm (2014)
  • Performs chamber music with colleagues from the Berliner Philharmonie in diverse ensembles such as the Ensemble Wien-Berlin, the Horns of the Berliner Philharmoniker, and the Philharmonic Octet Berlin, but also with artists such as Ian Bostridge, Mark Padmore, Maurizio Pollini, Lars Vogt, Kirill Gerstein, Kolja Blacher, and Guy Braunstein
  • Guest professorship at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin and the Sibelius Academy Helsinki, as well as the Karajan Academy
  • Since 2015: visiting professor at the Royal College of Music, London
