Prof. Sivan Magen

  • Born in Jerusalem; studied piano with Benjamin Oren and Talma Cohen, and harp with Irena Kaganovsky-Kessler at the Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance
  • Completed the program in harp with Isabelle Moretti at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris with a “Premier Prix”; earned an MA with Nancy Allen at the Juilliard School of Music in New York
  • Winner at the renowned International Harp Competition in Israel in 2006 and the Borletti Buitoni Trust Awards in 2012; prizewinner of the Pro Musicis International Award
  • Appearances as a soloist in the US, South America, Europe, and Israel, among others at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Wiener Konzerthaus
  • Has received invitations to perform with the Israel Philharmonic, the Strasbourg Philharmonic, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony, and the Wiener Kammerorchester
  • Appearances at international chamber music festivals in Marlboro, Kuhmo, Giverny, and Jerusalem
  • Collaborations with artists such as Nobuko Imai, Shmuel Ashkenazi, Gary Hoffman, Emmanuel Pahud, Susanna Phillips, and members of the Guarneri and Juilliard Quartets
  • 2008: Founding member of the Israeli Chamber Project (ICP), as well as the Trio Tre Voci with flutist Marina Piccinini and violist Kim Kashkashian
  • 2011: The ICP receives the Outstanding Ensemble Award from the Israeli Ministry of Culture
  • Records two solo albums for Linn Records; recordings with the ICP (for Azica) and Tre Voci (ECM)
  • The Britten CD “Still Falls the Rain,” with Nicholas Phan (Avie) is listed among the “best of 2012” by the New York Times
  • Teaching activities at international master classes, among others at the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute, the Peabody Institute, New England Conservatory, the Conservatoire de Paris, the Royal Academy London, the Royal College London, the Guildhall School, and Trinity College, as well as at the Summer Academy in Nice, the Kuhmo Festival in Finland and the Aspen Music Festival
  • Jury membership at international harp competitions in Israel, the Netherlands, Taiwan, the Lyon & Healy Awards, and the Vera Dulova International Harp Competition in Moscow
  • 2017: Guest professor at the Conservatoire National de Paris
  • Since 2017: solo harpist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Helsinki
  • Appointed professor of harp at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin beginning summer semester 2023
