Prof. Mara Kurotschka

  • Graduate of the Juilliard School in New York City
  • Choreographic works performed at New York’s Lincoln Center, at the Théâtre de Caen, at the Ruhrtriennale, the Salzburg Festival, and the Münchner Kammerspielen
  • Long-standing collaboration as a co-director with Phillip Stölzl, which has taken her to the Theater Basel, the Staatsoper Stuttgart, the Ruhrtriennale, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Staatsoper Berlin, the Wiener Festwochen, and the Gran Teatro del Liceo
  • Collaboration with Jürgen Flimm at the Staatsoper Berlin and the Mikhailovsky Theater, St. Petersburg, in a repertoire that extends from works by Wagner, Verdi, Gounod, and Puccini to contemporary music, theater, operettas, and musicals
  • Has directed independently as well since 2013
  • Realized the Ukrainian premiere of Fliegender Hollände at the Donbass Opera in Donetsk; invitations to the National Ukrainian Opera in Kiev, the Odessa Opera Theater, and the Lviv Opera; received the Taras Shevchenko Prize in 2014
  • Further distinctions among others from the Akademie der Künste Berlin, the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, and the German Federal Cultural Foundation
  • Active as a jury member with the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes
