Eisler alumna Sara Kim appointed professor of viola and chamber music in Bremen
Bremen University of the Arts has appointed the internationally renowned violist Sara Kim as Professor of Viola and Chamber Music for the summer semester 2025. Sara Kim, born in Daejeon (South Korea) in 1988, completed her musical training at the Gnessin Special School in Moscow and at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. She completed her studies with Prof Michael Vogler in 2010 and switched to the viola in the master's programme with Prof Friedemann Weigle at the Eisler and with Prof Hartmut Rohde at the UdK Berlin. She completed her masterclass with Prof. Nils Mönkemeyer at the University of Music and Theatre in Munich.
Sara Kim has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at major festivals, including the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Gstaad Menuhin Festival. She was principal viola in the Braunschweig State Orchestra from 2013 to 2019 and then moved to this position in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. She has also made guest appearances with top orchestras such as the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig. She gained her teaching expertise as a lecturer at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin as well as in Munich and Leipzig.
