Hanns Eisler Prize
for the composition and performance of contemporary music

Every year, since 1993, the Academy of Music offers the "Hanns Eisler Prize for the composition and performance of contemporary music“. The award is dedicated to the fostering of new works and their performance. The compositions selected by staff of the composition department from all submissions are performed in a special concert. Two juries decide on the award of the prizes for composition and for performance. The jury for the composition prize comprises members of staff of the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin, a representative of the University of the Arts Berlin and external representatives of the Berlin music scene. The jury for the performance prize usually includes instrumental and singing teachers plus members of staff from the composition or theory departments of the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin. The prizegiving takes place after the jury’s decision directly following the concert.
The "Hanns Eisler Prize for the composition and performance of contemporary music" is endowed with 5000 Euros.
