| Requirements | The applicant must have adequate general and subject-specific skills in the German language. The German skills need to be at a level to make it possible to take part in and follow the lectures in the German language. The future student needs to be in a position to: *read and comment on composition-related and academic texts *master subject-specific terminology (written and oral communication) *master a topical discussion in the field of composition (written and oral communication) |
Preselection | As stated in the application and admission regulations, there is a preselection round, which is based on the application and its attachments. |
Entrance examination | Candidates who succesfully passed the preselection round will be invited to the entrance examinations. The two exams are the composition examination and the examination of minor subjects. The latter consists of music theory, aural training, piano and musicology tests. The applicant needs to demonstrate his or her particular skills and knowledge in composing music as well as his or her maturity as an artist. The applicant should convince the admission committee of his or her individual strengths and interests. |
Composition Examination | Presentation of several one's own compositions of different orchestration in written scores. These compositions should be sent together with the application documents for pre-screening. An additional presentation of one's own compositions via sound and visual media is possible. Discussion with the admissions committee about the applicants compositions. This discussion is carried out in German. |
Examination for Minor Subjects | The applicant needs to demonstrate his or her skills in the areas of music theory, piano, and aural training. It is expected that the applicant has Bachelor-level knowledge and skills in the compulsory subjects of music theory, piano and aural training, and that the applicant knows the significant contemporary and historical musical works. |
The admissions committee reserves the right to interrupt and discontinue the examination at any time. |
